Youth Spotlight: Vicente Davis-Provoste

By Nick Krishnan: Marketing and Events Manager

The idea of standing in front of a room full of people to voice your opinions can be a daunting task for anyone.  For Vicente Davis-Provoste, a senior at Battle Mountain High School, this simply isn’t the case.  When I met Vicente at a Communities That Care Coalition meeting, it was clear to me that he is a young man with natural leadership qualities. Surrounded by adults, Vicente exhibited the confidence to speak his mind and share his thoughts.  Participation alone didn’t seem to be enough for Vicente, as the meeting progressed, he showed a willingness and comfort with taking on a leadership role.

Like many of the kids growing up in Eagle County, Vicente’s parents came from somewhere else.  Vicente’s mother, Rosa Provoste, is from Chile and is a private chef, while his father, Jarrett Davis, is a snowboard instructor and head of services at Red Sky Golf Course is from Baltimore.  With both of his parents working jobs where they interact with visitors from all over the world, it’s no wonder that Vicente seems to have such a natural ability to speak with people, even strangers.

It’s not just his parents that have taught Vicente to carry himself in such a confident and mature manner, Vicente also credits his late grandfather.  Vicente’s grandfather taught him that “be it great, be it small, do it right, or not at all, and not at all is not an option.”  This lesson has not only led Vicente to put forth his best effort in everything he does, it has also motivated him to pursue opportunities such as Communities That Care and TedX, where he can leverage his voice and ideas to create positive change in the community.

Vicente also enjoys volunteering for various roles with the Vail Rec District.  Through his love for basketball Vicente has coached a children’s basketball team and has been a score keeper for the men’s league.

With all of his enthusiasm and confidence in making a positive impact on the community, it’s easy to forget that Vicente is still in high school.  He’s still just a kid that enjoys playing basketball with his friends, bowling, fishing, playing golf for Battle Mountain High School and of course, playing video games.  After graduating high school, Vicente plans on expanding upon his passion for video games by studying computer science and game design in order to pursue a career in video game development.
