Youth Spotlight - Liam Liesegang

Liam Liesegang is an 8th grader who’s been calling Eagle Valley home for just about a year now. His journey here wasn’t without its challenges, but it’s clear that the move has opened up a world of new experiences, friendships, and opportunities to grow.

This year, Liam is moving schools to Ignite Learning Academy, where he’s part of an advanced virtual program. Through this, Liam has found a unique space to excel. Without the distractions of a traditional classroom, he’s able to focus on his passions—like baking in the cooking club. His blueberry scones are a hit, and they’re just the beginning of what this young chef can whip up.

But there’s more to Liam than meets the eye. When he’s not baking, he’s probably tinkering with something, using his love for engineering to solve problems in creative ways. Inspired by his dad’s self-drive and the innovative spirit of Hacksmith (the creator of the first real-life plasma lightsaber), Liam dreams of one day turning his own ideas into reality.

Family is the backbone of Liam’s life. Originally from Florida, he’s the middle child in a lively household with two older sisters and two younger siblings—a brother and a sister. His parents have always been his biggest supporters, helping him tackle everything from tough math problems to the emotional challenges of moving. His siblings are his world, and he wouldn’t hesitate to protect them, no matter what.

One of the things Liam loves most about Eagle Valley is the sense of community. He’s passionate about creating spaces where everyone feels welcome, a philosophy that’s driven him to get involved in events like Youthapalooza. Whether he’s helping to plan the event or just hanging out with friends at Town Park, he’s always looking for ways to contribute.

Outside of school, Liam is all about adventure. He enjoys running, mountain biking, and exploring the local scene—from the Grand Ave Grille to his friend Isaac’s house. He’s also a fan of concerts and community events, which not only give him a sense of purpose but also a chance to meet new people. One of his favorite memories from the past year is a neighbor’s birthday party, where he and his friends had their first teen-only bash, complete with goofing off and horror movies.

Liam’s journey hasn’t been without its bumps. The biggest challenge he’s faced was moving and starting over in a new place, leaving behind friends and the familiar. But he’s learned some valuable lessons along the way—like not taking anything for granted, because life can change in an instant. And for those a bit older than him, his advice is simple but sound: “Save your money!”

Looking ahead, Liam’s excited about the future. He dreams of welding—turning his ideas into metal masterpieces, just like his uncles who inspired him with their own creations. For now, he’s working with what he’s got—cardboard, paper, hot glue, and popsicle sticks—but his imagination knows no bounds.

In five years, Liam sees himself in college, studying engineering and continuing to push the boundaries of what’s possible. He’s proud of the work he’s put in, especially skipping a grade in math and excelling in physics. His involvement with Valley’s Voice has given him a sense of belonging and a purpose in the community.

Liam is quick to shout out to Keanna, who introduced him to Valley’s Voice and opened the door to so many opportunities. Through Mountain Youth, he’s found a place where he can make a difference, set up events, and help tackle challenges in the community. And in a place like Eagle Valley, where the bus system gets you anywhere and everything’s within biking distance, Liam is right where he belongs.
