Belonging ~ Connection ~ Community
Middle School is a challenging time for students, teachers, parents and administrators. Mrs. Erin Street, the Assistant Principal and Athletic Director for Eagle Valley Middle School (EVMS) recognizes this and strives to be a listener and connector. Mrs. Street has the patience, optimism, understanding and training to be just this for EVMS. She can be found in the front drive at drop off, in the school hallways and at almost every sporting event and always with a big greeting smile on her face. In only her third year at EVMS but with 20 years of teaching and administration experience she has brought so much knowledge and FUN to our community.
Erin moved from Michigan to Colorado over 20 years ago to follow her passion of being an educator and feels she is now right where she is meant to be: inspiring middle school students and teachers to be their best self. She also lives by family first, crediting her husband for his support in following her passion. She has three children that all proudly attend Eagle County Schools and is looking forward to watching them play football this fall. Erin understands the power of connection and communication. Demonstrated on any given day by setting up a game of 9-square, posting updates on the school social media account, and or bringing music outside at school lunches.
In her role of Athletic Director, Erin also spoke of the importance of sport and activity for student’s well-being and for bringing families together. She works hard to foster school pride and spirit in all she does. EVMS has high student participation in their athletic programs. EVMS students feel a sense of belonging and are encouraged to take risks and try new things. Not only is her focus on athletics for EVMS but she is bridging community by bringing Eagle Valley Middle, Gypsum Creek Middle and Eagle Valley High School together thru last year’s first annual Middle School showdown under the lights at the high school. The event brought students and families from three schools together for an evening of togetherness and fun through sport.
Mrs. Street spends countless hours making sure our youth are inspired to learn, feel safe, have a trusted adult who will listen, and spreads a little sunshine. In her downtime she loves doing outdoor adventures with her family, especially snowboarding. I too was feeling inspired in my chat with Erin and wanted to share one of her sayings: Everyday is a New Day!
